Students respond to a quote — then respond to each other's responses.

Builds on ideas rather than replacing them — teaches the difference between discussion and parallel monologue.

Instructions

Write a quote on the board — from history, literature, philosophy, or current events. Students write a 2-sentence response. Share in pairs. Then one pair shares with the group — and the group must respond to what they said, not to the original quote. Keep the chain going for 5 minutes.
