Letter to the Past
Students write a letter to someone who lived through a historical event.
Creates emotional connection to historical figures — makes the past feel inhabited rather than abstract.
Instructions
Students choose or are assigned a person who lived through a specific historical event. They write a short letter to that person — acknowledging what they experienced, asking one question, and sharing one thing from today that person could not have imagined. Read one or two aloud. Debrief: what did writing the letter make you realize?
