The Group Machine

Students build a working machine using only their bodies and sounds.

Creates a physical experience of interdependence — every part matters to the whole.

Instructions

One student starts a simple repetitive movement and sound. One by one, others join, adding their own movement and sound that connects to the whole. The group builds a single working machine — all parts moving together. Then the teacher speeds it up, slows it down, or breaks one part. Debrief: how did it feel to be one part of a whole?
